Karen Bass

Incumbent Mayor of Los Angeles since December 2022, the first woman and second Black mayor in the city's history. She previously served as U.S. Representative for California's 37th District (2011–2022) and as Speaker of the California State Assembly, where she was the first Black woman to lead a state legislative chamber in U.S. history. Before elected office she founded the Community Coalition, a South Los Angeles social-justice nonprofit. She is seeking a second term on a record centered on homelessness, public safety, and Palisades wildfire recovery.
